Highlights of the Month The Chesapeake Bay Trust Awards Over $1 Million in Grant Funding to Support the Chesapeake Bay! The Chesapeake Bay Trust, in conjunction with its partners, awarded over $1 million in grants in November to support Chesapeake Bay restoration, education and outreach efforts. The Board of Trustees approved the awards at a board meeting on Wednesday, November 12, 2009. Please contact the Chesapeake Bay Trust to learn more about these awards. Governor O'Malley Makes New Appointments to the Chesapeake Bay Trust's Board of Trustees.
Governor Martin O’Malley has announced the appointment of five new members to the Chesapeake Bay Trust’s Board of Trustees. The Trust’s 19-member Board of Trustees has two ex-officio representatives from the State General Assembly and one each from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (MDNR), Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE), and Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA). The remaining fourteen members of the Board are appointed by the Governor. Stuart Clarke, Valerie Ervin, Jack Hollerbach, Terence Smith and Lise Van Susteren have all been appointed to the 19 member board. Additionally, Tara Potter, who has served on the board for two years, has been appointed to a full term by the Governor. Click here to learn more about these appointments. The Chesapeake Bay Trust is now accepting applications for our Environmental Education, Fisheries Grant, and Stewardship Grant Programs! Environmental Education Grant Program: The Trust seeks to increase environmental stewardship though hands on education and public involvement in the Bay and its rivers by providing grants that build and expand K through 12 environmental education programs and increase student access to Meaningful Watershed Experiences. Fisheries Grant Program: The Trust and the FishAmerica Foundation announce the fifth year of their partnership. Grants are available for a wide range of activities that improve fish habitat in the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. Proposals must be received in the Trust’s office no later than 5:00 P.M. Stewardship Grant Program: The Stewardship Grants program provides resources to watershed associations, citizen groups, and volunteers who work to protect and preserve the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers through on-the-ground restoration and demonstration projects.
